  Ever wonder what it is us academics do when we’re going through grad school? Wonder no more! Just one of the many, many tasks we are asked to undertake is the book review. Naturally, this exercise is meant to examine recent and not-so-recent contributions to the historiography and articulate our thoughts on the strengths, weaknesses, and overall impact of the work in question. This week, for instance, I was asked to read and respond to Nan Elizabeth Woodruff’s American Congo. My attempt at an earnest academic evaluation is below.
